Bimini to Florida Crossing - Photo Print
Picture taken while crossing the "Gulf Stream" from Bimini to Miami on a Azimut Motor Yacht. The Gulf Stream produces one of the fastest consistent ocean currents in the world as it flows north between Florida and the Bahamas. The volume of water it carries is more than 70 times the combined flow of all land rivers of the world.
Between Florida and the Bahamas the Gulf Streams depths reach upto 2,600 feet deep, and the surface current of the Gulf Stream travels 3 to 5 knots. Because of this massive volume of water traveling at fairly high speed the Gulf Stream can produce some huge waves. When the wind driven waves come from the north and collide with the northerly flow of this massive water flow.
On this day when the picture was taken however the ocean is as calm as a pond. The type of crossing from the Bahamas to Florida all boaters wish for.
